congregatio monastica (English spelling) congregatio monastica

[Modern Monastic Ideas]
From the end of the Middle Ages to modern times, the monastic spirit was reborn in a state of great change. Like the Abbey of Agnetenberg where Thomas à Kempis lived, about 50 monasteries belonging to the "Common Life Brothers" founded by Grote spread a pietistic movement called "Devotio moderna" (New Faith) among the people in the Netherlands and Germany, and in Italy, a new monastic organization called "Congregatio monastica" (Monastics) was born, which incorporated the structure of mendicant orders into the traditional contemplative monasteries. Many brotherhoods were formed in Italy from the 15th to the 16th century, among which the Theatine Order was born in 1524, and four years later the Capuchin Order was founded with the aim of reforming the Franciscan Order.

Examples of this are the Congregation of Cassino in Italy, and the Congregations of Saint-Denis and Saint-Maur in France. …
