Hizekiah

Hizekiah
King of the southern kingdom of ancient Israel. Reigned 725-697 BC. In order to break the vassalage of his father Ahaz to Assyria, he joined anti-Assyrian alliances in 714 and 705 BC, but failed. He surrendered both times and barely managed to prevent the downfall of his kingdom, but lost most of his territory. However, he made an effort to eliminate the influence of Assyrian religion in the country and reformed the cult system. He is regarded as a pious king by Judean historians, especially the Chronicles, and later there was a miracle story about him having his life extended by God.
