Engaru [town] - Engaru
A town in Monbetsu County, eastern Hokkaido. It occupies the middle and upper reaches of the Yubetsu River, and the Sekihoku Main Line runs through it. The riverside is fertile farmland, where dairy and beef cattle are raised, and sugar beets, corn, and asparagus are produced. Forestry is also practiced. In October 2005, Ikutahara Town, Maruseppu Town, and Shirataki Village in Monbetsu County were incorporated. Area: 1,332.45 km2 . Population: 22,265 (2010).

北海道東部，紋別郡の町。湧別(ゆうべつ)川中上流域を占め，石北本線が通じる。川沿いは肥沃(ひよく)な耕地で，乳牛，肉牛など畜産が行われ，テンサイ，トウモロコシ，アスパラガスを産し，林業も行う。2005年10月紋別郡生田原町，丸瀬布町，白滝村を編入。1332.45km2。２万2265人（2010）。
