A town in Monbetsu County, eastern Hokkaido. It occupies the middle and upper reaches of the Yubetsu River, and the Sekihoku Main Line runs through it. The riverside is fertile farmland, where dairy and beef cattle are raised, and sugar beets, corn, and asparagus are produced. Forestry is also practiced. In October 2005, Ikutahara Town, Maruseppu Town, and Shirataki Village in Monbetsu County were incorporated. Area: 1,332.45 km2 . Population: 22,265 (2010).
