[ I ] Chromium(II) chloride: CrCl 2 (122.90). Also called chromium dichloride. The anhydrous form is obtained by direct reaction of heated chromium metal with hydrogen chloride, or by passing hydrogen through heated chromium(III) chloride. Colorless needle crystals. Melting point: 824 °C. Easily soluble in water. The hexahydrate, tetrahydrate, trihydrate, and dihydrate are obtained from the aqueous solution. The anhydrous form is stable in dry air, but is easily oxidized in moist air. A strong reducing agent. Used in chromium metallurgy and as a reducing agent and catalyst in organic reactions. Toxic. [CAS 10049-05-5] [ II ] Chromium(III) chloride: CrCl 3 (158.36). Also called chromium trichloride. The anhydrous form is obtained by passing chlorine through heated chromium metal, or through chromium(III) oxide mixed with carbon. The anhydride is a reddish purple crystal with a melting point of 1150 °C and decomposes at temperatures above 1200 °C. It is poorly soluble in water. The hydrate can be obtained by dissolving chromium hydroxide (III) in hydrochloric acid or from an aqueous solution obtained by reducing potassium dichromate with concentrated hydrochloric acid. Both hydrates are readily soluble in water. It is used as a catalyst for organic reactions, in plating, in pharmaceuticals, as a pigment, as a mordant, and in leather tanning (chrome tanning). It is toxic. [CAS 10025-73-7: CrCl 3 ][CAS 10060-12-5: CrCl 3 ・6H 2 O] Source: Morikita Publishing "Chemical Dictionary (2nd Edition)" Information about the Chemical Dictionary 2nd Edition |
【Ⅰ】塩化クロム(Ⅱ):CrCl2(122.90).
