Flotation is the most effective method for treating copper sulfide minerals, but is difficult for treating copper oxide ores, especially copper silicate minerals. The LPF (short for leach-precipitate-flotation) method is one method for treating copper oxide ores, and consists of the following process: (1) The ore is finely ground using a ball mill or other device, and if the ore also contains copper sulfide minerals, the sulfide minerals are first recovered by flotation in the usual way. (2) Next, sulfuric acid is added to the remaining pulp (mineral liquor) to lower the pH and leach the copper oxide minerals.

浮選(浮遊選鉱)法は，硫化銅鉱物に対しては最も有効な選鉱法であるが，酸化銅鉱，とくにケイ酸塩銅鉱物に対しては困難が多い。LPF(leach‐precipitate‐flotationの略)法は酸化銅鉱に対する一つの選鉱法で，次のようなプロセスから成り立っている。(1)鉱石はボールミルなどによって微粉砕され，硫化銅鉱物をも含む鉱石であれば，通常の方法でまず硫化鉱物を浮選回収する。(2)次に残りのパルプ(鉱液)に硫酸を加え，pHを下げることによって酸化銅鉱物を浸出leachする。
