Katsuo Okazaki - Okazaki bonito
Born: July 10, 1897 in Kanagawa
Died: October 10, 1965. Tokyo diplomat and politician. Graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1922. Joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1945, he became the first director of the Central Liaison Office for the Termination of the War. In 1947, as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was involved in the end of the war affairs and negotiations with the occupying forces. In 1949, he became a member of the House of Representatives, and in 1951, he became Minister of State (Director-General of the Reparations Agency), and in 1952, Minister of Foreign Affairs. He assisted Shigeru Yoshida throughout his career as a close aide to Yoshida, and was instrumental in negotiating the peace treaty with Japan, and in concluding the Japan-U.S. Administrative Agreement and the MSA. He lost the 1955 House of Representatives election. He retired from politics, but returned to his position as ambassador to the United Nations in 1961. He was a faithful promoter of Yoshida's postwar diplomacy.
