Ellery Queen

The pen name of the American mystery writers Frederic Dannay (1905-82) and Manfred B. Lee (1905-71). They published about 100 full-scale mystery novels, including their first work The Roman Hat Mystery (1929), which features Inspector Queen and his son Ellery Queen, and The Tragedy of X (1932), in which the deaf actor Drury Lane plays the detective role. They also contributed to the world of mystery novels with the publication of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine (1941).
