Burdigala

...120 km from the mouth of the Gironde and close to the mouth of the Garonne, the city has developed mainly on the left bank.
[history]
Its origins date back to the 3rd century BC as the Celtic city of Burdigala, located on the Garonne River at the entrance to the Atlantic Ocean for trade routes to the Mediterranean. After the Roman conquest, the town was remodeled and the central part of the city was formed around the present-day Rue Sainte-Catherine.
