Equity

A legal system in the UK. It developed through precedents of the Court of Equity (Court of Lord Chancellor), which existed until 1875. It originated from the exercise of the king's judicial powers other than those delegated to the court. It developed as a discretionary remedy for defects in the common law. It is translated as "equity law," meaning moral equity that corrects strict law.
