Emulsion paint

Japanese: エマルジョンペイント（英語表記）emulsion paint

A general term for paints whose vehicle is in the form of an emulsion. In the field of paints, it is common to refer to it without using the word emulsion. Usually, it refers to paints whose vehicle is an aqueous synthetic resin emulsion (latex), but in a broader sense, it also includes paints whose vehicle is a non-aqueous emulsion (a stable dispersion of polymer particles that do not dissolve in an organic medium) and a post-emulsification aqueous emulsion (a resin emulsified and dispersed in water using a surfactant, etc.). Aqueous synthetic resin emulsions are produced by emulsion polymerization and do not contain organic solvents, so there is no risk of fire or poisoning, and they do not pollute the air.

展色剤がエマルジョン(乳濁液)状の塗料の総称。塗料の分野ではエマルションと濁らずにいうのが普通である。通常は水性合成樹脂エマルジョン(ラテックス)を展色剤とした塗料をいうが，広義には非水エマルジョン(有機媒体中に，これに溶解しない重合体粒子を安定に分散させたもの)および後乳化法水性エマルジョン(界面活性剤等を用いて樹脂を水中に乳化分散させたもの)を展色剤とする塗料も含める。水性合成樹脂エマルジョンは，乳化重合により製造されるもので，有機溶剤を含まないので，火災や中毒の心配がなく，大気を汚染することがない。
