Going outside the Earth's atmosphere to observe various phenomena in space. The Earth is surrounded by a layer of air that weighs 1 kg per square centimeter. This atmosphere, which is necessary for our survival, acts as a thick wall that absorbs most of the electromagnetic waves from outer space. Outside this atmospheric wall, a plasma wind blows from the sun. Since the 1950s, humans have used balloons to send observation equipment high into the atmosphere, as well as sounding rockets and, since 1957, artificial satellites to go outside the atmosphere and learn what is happening outside space.
