The name of a genre of Japanese music. It is also written as "Kamigata uta." (1) A term from Edo for songs that were created and passed down in Kamigata, i.e., Kansai. In the narrow sense, it refers to jiuta. (2) In modern times, it is used to loosely refer to songs that have been passed down in Kamigata and whose family register is unclear. 日本音楽の種目名。「上方唄」とも書く。 (1) 上方すなわち関西で成立し伝承された歌曲に対する,江戸からの呼称。狭義には地歌をさす。 (2) 現代では,上方で伝承されている歌曲のなかで,その戸籍のはっきりしないものを漠然とさすときに用いられる。狭義の「江戸歌」をいうこともあり,「上方端歌」をさすこともある。
