…French composer and music educator. She studied organ performance and composition at the Paris Conservatory, and won second place in the Prix de Rome in 1908. However, she devoted her life primarily to music education, serving as assistant harmony teacher (1909-24) and professor at the École Normale (1920-39) at her alma mater. She also taught harmony and other subjects at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau from 1921 onwards, where her pupils included A. Copland, R. Harris and W. Piston. She became the school's director in 1950. In 1945 she was appointed professor of accompaniment at her alma mater. …
