Oman Gengobei Mono - Oman Gengobei Mono

Japanese: おまん源五兵衛物 - おまんげんごべえもの

It is a branch of early modern folk song, puppet theater, and kabuki/kyogen. In the early modern period, a song that sang the love story of Satsuma samurai Gengobei and Oman became popular as Gengobe-bushi, based on the lyrics, "When I look down from a high mountain into the valley, I see how cute you are, cloth-searing." This led Ihara Saikaku to write "The Tale of Gengobei on the Mountain of Love" in Volume 5 of Ukiyo-zoshi Koshoku Gonin Onna, and Chikamatsu Monzaemon to compose Joruri Satsuma Uta, which inspired a play with Gengobei, Sangobei, and Oman as the main characters. Yoshida Kanko and others collaborated on the Joruri Satsuma Uta Geiko Kagami (1757), which is a story of feudal animals that uses Satsuma Uta.

近世歌謡，人形浄瑠璃，歌舞伎狂言の一系統。近世初期，薩摩の侍源五兵衛とおまんの情話を歌う歌謡が，〈高い山から谷底見ればおまん可愛や布さらす〉を原歌とする源五兵衛節として流行し，それによって井原西鶴は浮世草子《好色五人女》巻五に〈恋の山源五兵衛物語〉を書き，近松門左衛門は浄瑠璃《薩摩歌》を作ったので，これをうけて源五兵衛･三五兵衛･おまんが主人公となる戯曲が生まれた。吉田冠子らの合作浄瑠璃《薩摩歌妓鑑（さつまうたげいこかがみ）》(1757)は《薩摩歌》を利用したお家騒動物。
