This scenic coastal spot is located in the western part of Sado City, Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture. It was named Senkaku Bay by Wakimizu Tetsugoro (1933) because of its resemblance to the Hardangerfjord in Norway. The surrounding area is a typical coastal terrace area of the Osado Mountains, and although the terrace cliffs made of rhyolite are only 20 meters high, they have been eroded by the sea in winter by the seasonal winds, creating a strange sight. The vivid colors unique to rhyolite blend with the beautiful vegetation such as old pines, lilies, and azaleas, making for a wonderful view from a boat. It is included in the Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park, and Aikawa Marine Park is also located there. It is a 15-minute bus ride from Aikawa to Tassha. There are sightseeing boats available from Tassha Port. [Hisao Yamazaki] [References] | | | | |A scenic spot in the western part of Sado Island.
