...A Christian heresy that was influential in the Balkans in the Middle Ages. It is said to have been founded in the first half of the 10th century by Bogomil, a priest in the Macedonian region of western Bulgaria, under the influence of the Paulist sect. It was a dualistic heresy that saw the world as being divided into good and evil, and it completely rejected not only the church system and liturgy, but also secular authority and social systems as having been created by Satan (the devil), which resulted in its appearance as an anti-establishment movement and led to oppression by the rulers and the church.
