…It was originally a summer palace given to his wife by Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria, and was built between 1664 and 1674 by Italian architect Agostino Barelli (c. 1627-87) and others. In the early 18th century, Elector Max Emanuel, inspired by the Palace of Versailles, expanded it into a Baroque palace on both sides, with architect Giovanni Antonio Viscardi (1645-1713) and others in charge. Modeled after Dutch palace architecture, it was designed with independent pavilions connected by wings and a canal surrounding the building. …
