Anesthesia Analysis - Masuibenseki

It is a method of psychiatric examination and treatment. Specifically, the sleeping drug Amytal (amobarbital) is slowly injected intravenously to anesthetize the patient, so it is also called the Amytal interview. Amytal relieves the mental tension, repression, and inhibitions that humans normally exert. When injected, memories and emotions that have been suppressed and locked away in the depths of the mind rise to consciousness, or the willpower that the patient has been trying to keep quiet weakens, causing the patient to tell the interviewer what they have been feeling. For this reason, it was used in the United States during World War II to make prisoners of war confess, and was also used to treat war neurosis. Currently, it is used to grasp the innermost conflicts of mentally ill people and to help with diagnosis and treatment, as well as to treat amnesia, stupor, and mutism caused by some psychological experience, but this method requires great care and caution because it forces the person to do things against their will by using drugs.

精神科の診察・治療方法の一つ。具体的には主としてアミタール（アモバルビタール）という睡眠薬を徐々に静脈内に注射して麻酔をかけた状態で面接するので、アミタール面接ともいう。アミタールは普段人間が働かせている精神的な緊張力や抑圧、抑制などを解く作用をもっており、これを注射されると、それまで抑圧して心の奥に閉じ込めていた記憶や情動が意識にのぼってきたり、あるいは口にすまいとしていた意志の力が弱くなって面接者にその内容を伝えたりするようになる。そのため、第二次世界大戦中にアメリカで捕虜に自白させる目的で使われたほか、戦争神経症の治療などにも用いられたという。現在では、精神障害者の心の奥にある葛藤(かっとう)を把握して診断・治療に役だてるほか、なんらかの心理的な体験によって生じた健忘、昏迷(こんめい)、緘黙(かんもく)状態などの治療に用いられているが、この方法は薬物を用いることにより、いわば本人の意に反したことを強要することにもなるので、その実施には十分な配慮と慎重さを要する。
