A former town in Yame County, southern Fukuoka Prefecture. A mountain village occupying the southern side of the Minou Mountains. The settlements are distributed up to an altitude of nearly 500m, and produce timber, mandarin oranges, grapes, tea, shiitake mushrooms, etc. In October 2006, it was incorporated into Yame City. 59.32 km2 . 3,867 people (2005).
