An orbit that changes from one circular orbit to the other between two orbits with different orbital radii in the same plane. It is an elliptical orbit inscribed in the outer orbit and circumscribed in the inner orbit, and can be changed by applying thrust at two points, the perigee (or perihelion) and the apogee (or aphelion). It is known as the orbit that moves between the two orbits with the least energy. It is used when putting an artificial satellite into a geostationary orbit, but since it generally involves a change in orbital plane, it is strictly different from the Hohmann orbit, which is performed in the same plane.
