A former town in Nishiyatsushiro County in the southwest of Yamanashi Prefecture. It occupies the hills on the left bank of the Fuji River and produces rice and fruit. Iwama, located in the center and on the Minobu Line, was known as a town for peddling and tabi (sock) manufacturing, but today it is known as Japan's number one stamp town, specializing in crystal seals and accounting for half of the nation's total seal production. In October 2005, it merged with Misato Town and Ichikawa Daimon Town in Nishiyatsushiro County to become Ichikawamisato Town in Nishiyatsushiro County. Area: 13.28 km2 . 山梨県南西部,西八代(にしやつしろ)郡の旧町。富士川左岸の丘陵地を占め,米・果樹を産する。身延(みのぶ)線が通じる中心の岩間は行商出稼(でかせぎ)と足袋(たび)製造の町として知られたが,現在は水晶印章を特産,全国の印章生産の半分を占める〈日本一のハンコの町〉。2005年10月,西八代郡三珠町,市川大門町と合併し町制,西八代郡市川三郷町となる。13.28km2。4082人(2003)。
