Ono Emishi

Japanese:
Ono Emishi
Year of death: Tenmu 6 (677)
Year of birth: Unknown. An official who served Emperor Tenmu. Son of Ono no Imoko. Father of Keno. His gravestone was discovered in 1613 near Kamitakano in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. This location corresponds to Ono-go, Atago County, Yamashiro Province, as mentioned in the Wamyōshō, and was the base of the Ono clan. It was later reburied in 1697, but was stolen and removed in 1913, where it remains to this day. Although he was the son of Imoko, not much is written about him in official histories, and from this gravestone we know that he served the court of Emperor Tenmu and was appointed Daijōkan and Gyōbukyō. This "Dajōkan" is thought to be an official position that constituted the Daijōkan, the highest administrative institution, but considering that the Ono clan's family tree states "Daitokukan Chunagon," it is likely that he held the position of Dainagon or Chunagon.
