Baton twirler (English spelling) batontwirler

...During the march, the drum major leads the parade, holding a baton to direct the march. Today, baton twirlers, who spin batons in a spectacular fashion, also join in, adding color to the parade. It is said that the dance was first introduced to Japan in the Azuchi-Momoyama period (late 16th century), but it became popular at the end of the Edo period when Western military tactics began to be imported, and the "Restoration March" from the Meiji Restoration (1868) is famous.
