Egami - Egami

The representative of the parrotfish subfamily is the parrotfish Calotomus japonicus (illustration), which is distributed from the central to southern parts of Japan and is common in southern Japan. This name is used in the Kanto area, and in Kansai it is called Igami or Egami, perhaps because the shape of its mouth with its teeth bared gives it a mean impression. In Kyushu, it is called Mohami or Mohan because of its habit of eating seaweed.
