〘名〙① 思いのままになること。※性霊集‐七(835頃)為知識華厳会願文「逝者化為二金剛之躬一、留人変作二如意之身一」② (anuruddha の訳語) 仏語。読経・説法の時の講師の僧や灌頂の時の大阿闍梨などがたずさえる具。鉄・銅・角・竹・木などで作り、先端が巻き曲がって蕨(わらび)の形をしているもの。※大安寺伽藍縁起并流記資財帳‐天平一九年(747)「合如意壱拾陸枝 仏物十三枝木叉分三枝」 〔李頎‐題璿公山池〕③ 道士の持つ具。木・玉・鉄などで作る。昔、道士が陰徳ある貧士に与えたもので、これを振り上げると、思うままのものが出るという。〔晉書‐王敦伝〕④ 「にょいほうじゅ(如意宝珠)①」の略。※俳諧・犬子集(1633)二「つぎわけにさけるや如意の玉椿〈氏重〉」
