Also known as NIP (brand name). A diphenyl ether herbicide developed by the American company Rohm and Haas and introduced to Japan in 1956. It is a non-hormonal herbicide with no selectivity. When used in soil treatment, this herbicide is adsorbed to a relatively shallow part of the soil surface and does not migrate to deeper areas. Therefore, weeds growing on the soil surface are killed by contact, but crops with deep roots are not harmed. Taking advantage of this property, granules are often used as a herbicide for treating paddy field soil after rice transplanting, and emulsifiable concentrates and wettable powders are used as herbicides for field crops.
