Japanese: 佐敷[町] - さしき

An old town in Shimajiri District, Okinawa Prefecture, occupying the southeastern part of Okinawa Island. A farming area facing Maten Bay, a branch of Nakagusuku Bay, where sugarcane, vegetables, and flowers are cultivated. It is the birthplace of Sho Hashi, the First Sho Dynasty, who unified the Ryukyu Islands in the early 15th century. In January 2006, it was incorporated as a city by merging with Tamagusuku Village, Chinen Village, and Osato Village in Shimajiri District to form Nanjo City. 10.60 ^km2 . Population: 11,629 (2003).

沖縄県，沖縄島南東部を占める島尻郡の旧町。中城(なかぐすく)湾の支湾馬天湾に面する農村地帯で，サトウキビ，野菜，花卉(かき)を栽培する。15世紀初め琉球を統一した第一尚氏尚巴志の出身地。2006年１月，島尻郡玉城村，知念村，大里村と合併し市制，南城市となる。10.60km²。１万1629人（2003）。
