Mount Eniwa - Eniwa Dake

Japanese:
Mount Eniwa - Eniwa Dake

A troide-shaped volcano that erupted on the north shore of Lake Shikotsu in southwest Hokkaido. It is 1,320 meters above sea level. After the formation of the Shikotsu caldera, volcanic eruptions erupted on the caldera walls in the early Holocene (Alluvial Epoch), changing the circular lake shoreline into a cocoon shape. Mount Izari, Mount Eniwa, Mount Fuppushi, and Mount Tarumae are lined up in a straight line, suggesting a weak line in the earth's crust. A fissure runs from the summit crater to the lake, and smoke rises from it. The entire mountain is covered in forest and has maintained its beautiful greenery, but in 1972 (Showa 47) it was used as the main venue for the downhill course for the Sapporo Olympics, and some of the forest was cut down. Lake Okotanpe, a dammed lake, is located at the northwest foot of the mountain, and Okotan Onsen and Marukoma Onsen are located on the lakeshore. There is a hiking trail that takes 5 hours round trip from Polovinai, located between Sapporo and Lake Shikotsu.
