Stopwatch - Stopwatch (English spelling)

A portable timing device for measuring time intervals that does not indicate time. In the past, in Europe, a watch with a normal second hand and a stop device attached to the balance was called a stopwatch. The second hand or display can be started, stopped, or reset to zero by pressing a button or other means, and is equipped with a device that shows the total measured time. The second hand is divided into fifths, tenths, fiftieths, hundredths, etc., and depending on the purpose of use, there are 30-minute counters, 60-minute counters, and even longer ones with 12-hour counters. Some dials have special scales for sports competitions, production management, distance meters, speedometers, tachometers, etc.

時間間隔の測定をするための携帯型の測時機で、時刻を指示しないものをいう。かつてヨーロッパでは、普通の秒針を備えたウォッチでテンプに停止装置をつけたものをストップウォッチとよんでいた。押しボタンなどの操作によって秒針あるいは表示を、始動、停止、帰零(きれい)でき、測定時間の合計を示す装置を備えている。秒針の刻みは5分の1、10分の1、50分の1、100分の1などがあり、使用目的によって30分計、60分計、長いものでは12時間計もみられる。文字板には、スポーツ競技用、生産管理用、距離計、速度計、回転計などの特殊目盛りをもつものがある。
