Baktra

...A Greek kingdom founded around 250 B.C. by Diodotos, the satrap of Bactria, after it became independent from the Seleucid Empire. Its capital was in Balkh (anciently called Baktra) in what is now northern Afghanistan. Bactria is the historical name for the region from the Hindu Kush to the middle reaches of the Amu Darya. This area was conquered by Alexander the Great at the end of the 4th century B.C., and after the death of Alexander it came under the control of the Seleucid Empire.
