Japanese: 吸着音 - きゅうちゃくおん（英語表記）clicks

A sound produced only by the vocal organs of the oral cavity, without the involvement of the lungs or larynx. It is a type of plosive sound, the same as a tongue click or a tongue thump. When a close is made between the back of the tongue and the soft palate, and at the same time, a close is made between the lips, or between the tip of the tongue and the gums, or between the tip of the tongue and the palate, and the back of the tongue is then moved back, the air between the front and back closes becomes thinner. A click sound is produced when the front close is suddenly released. It appears in South African languages, such as San and Khoi, as a sound that phonologically corresponds to one phoneme. For example, the symbol for a dental sound is [t ^* ] or [ʇ]. This is completely different from an aspirated sound. A click sound can be repeated any number of times while breathing at the same time.

肺や喉頭とは関係なく，口腔の音声器官だけで発せられる音。舌打ち，舌鼓と同じ種類の破裂音である。奥舌面と軟口蓋との間で閉鎖をつくると同時に，両唇間あるいは舌尖と歯茎，あるいは舌尖と口蓋との間にも閉鎖をつくり，そのまま奥舌をうしろへずらすと前後の閉鎖の間の空気が薄くなる。このとき前方の閉鎖を急に開放して生じる破裂音が吸着音である。音韻的に1つの音素に該当する音として，サン語，コイ語など南アフリカの諸言語に現れる。記号は歯音を例にとると［ t^* ］としたり［ʇ］としたりする。これと吸気音とはまったく別である。吸着音は同時に呼吸をしながら何度でも続けることができる。
