A native historian from shortly after the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Grandson of Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II. His works include Crónica mexicana and Crónica mexicayotl. The former was written in Spanish around 1598, and the latter in Nahuatl around 1604. Both go back to the mythological origins of the Aztecs, their travels to the central plateau, the formation and expansion of the empire, and the conquest to the same period, but the contents of the two are different. Along with the works of Friar Diego Durán (1537?-88), they are fundamental sources of Aztec history.

スペインによるメキシコ征服直後の原住民歴史家。アステカ皇帝モクテスマ2世の孫。著書は《メキシコ年代記Crónica mexicana》と《メシカヨトル年代記Crónica mexicayotl》。前者は1598年ころスペイン語で，後者は1604年ころナワトル語で書かれ，いずれもアステカ族の神話的起源にさかのぼり，中央高原への遍歴，帝国の形成と拡大，征服から同時代に及ぶが，両者の内容は異なる。修道士ドゥランDiego Durán(1537？‐88)の著作とともにアステカ史の根本史料である。
