1530?-1610? A native historian from shortly after the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Grandson of Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II. His works include Crónica mexicana and Crónica mexicayotl. The former was written in Spanish around 1598, and the latter in Nahuatl around 1604. Both go back to the mythological origins of the Aztecs, their travels to the central plateau, the formation and expansion of the empire, and the conquest to the same period, but the contents of the two are different. Along with the works of Friar Diego Durán (1537?-88), they are fundamental sources of Aztec history. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
