King of the Plantagenet dynasty of England (reigned 1307-1327). Son of Edward I. First British prince to be given the title of Prince of Wales at Carnarvon Castle. As regent, he confirmed the Magna Carta, but unlike his father, he lacked strength of character, allowed his favorites to act tyrannically, lost a war with Scotland, and granted independence to its king, Robert I. He fell out of favor with Queen Isabella, sister of King Charles IV of France, and was deposed from the throne. He was assassinated at Berkeley Castle in 1327. → Related article Bruce Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
