A political party that claimed the French throne from the House of Orléans. It was formed at the beginning of the French Revolution and continued until the end of the 19th century. During the French Revolution, Philippe Égalité, Duke of Orléans (cousin of Louis XVI), supported the revolution and took a position of constitutional monarchy, which became the basic platform of the Orléan Royalists. During the Restoration, the Orléan Royalists were in conflict with the government as liberal opponents, and came to power with the July Revolution of 1830. The July Monarchy had Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans (son of the previous Duke of Orléans), as its king, and its support base was among notables such as great merchants, liberal nobles, lawyers, aristocrats from the Napoleonic Empire, and university professors.
