The term "feeding" has come into use today since the feeding of wild Japanese macaques. The first feeding took place in 1952 on Koshima Island on the Nichinan coast of Miyazaki Prefecture for the purpose of ecological research, and feeding was later carried out in various places, including Takasakiyama in Oita City, for tourism and other purposes. In English, it is called "provisioning" or "feeding." By feeding the animals with food, humans can remove the animals' fear and wariness of humans, making it easier to observe them from close range, and allowing long-term observation through individual identification.
