It refers to nonmetallic substances such as oxides and sulfides present inside metal materials. In particular, in steel materials, a wide variety of inclusions are produced depending on the manufacturing conditions, so controlling their type, shape, size, etc. is one of the important technical challenges. For this reason, nonmetallic inclusions generally refer to those in steel. Carbides, nitrides, intermetallic compounds, etc. are easy to dissolve or precipitate by heat treatment, so they are generally called precipitates in steel to distinguish them from nonmetallic inclusions, but the boundary between the two is not clear.
