Year of death: November 5, 1929 Year of birth: Bunkyu 3.9.25 (1863.11.6) A businessman and newspaper owner during the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods. Born as the third son of Suzuki Sakubei, a western goods wholesaler in Sendai, he was adopted into the Ichiriki family. After graduating from the former Second High School, he was active as a businessman, managing a reforestation company and other businesses. In 1894 he became a member of the Miyagi Prefectural Assembly, and the following year a member of the Sendai City Assembly. In 1896 he purchased the Progressive Party-affiliated Tohoku Nippo from Akiba Chushichi, and in January of the following year he renamed it Kahoku Shimpo and launched it. 没年:昭和4.11.5(1929) 生年:文久3.9.25(1863.11.6) 明治大正昭和時代の実業家,新聞経営者。仙台の洋品問屋鈴木作兵衛の3男として生まれ,一力家の養嗣子となる。旧制二高卒業後,植林会社などを経営し,実業家として活躍した。明治27(1894)年に宮城県会議員,翌年に仙台市会議員となった。29年改進党系の『東北日報』を秋葉忠七から買い受け,翌30年1月に『河北新報』と改題,創刊した。不偏不党を社是とし,地方紙で初めて英文欄を設けたり,また年中無休刊を宣言するなど先見性に富み,『河北新報』を東北を代表する地方紙にまで成長させた。<参考文献>『河北新報の80年』 (井川充雄) 出典 朝日日本歴史人物事典:(株)朝日新聞出版朝日日本歴史人物事典について 情報 |
