Ethyl Methyl Ketone

Also known as 2-butanone and methyl ethyl ketone. Chemical formula: CH ₃ COC ₂ H ₅ . Melting point: -87.3°C, boiling point: 79.53°C. Colorless liquid. Produced by the gas-phase dehydrogenation reaction of 2-butyl alcohol using zinc oxide as a catalyst. Used as a solvent for lacquer resin. Ethyl methyl ketone peroxide is produced as an isomer mixture from ethyl methyl ketone and hydrogen peroxide. This peroxide is used as a hardener for unsaturated polyester resin. [Koichi Narasaka]
