Kanji sound

Japanese: 漢字音 - かんじおん
Kanji sound
Originally the Chinese phonetic forms of kanji, it generally refers to the pronunciation of Chinese words that entered Japanese as loanwords, based on the original sounds, but fixed in Japan for individual kanji. It is also called "character sounds" or "on." Kanji sounds were transmitted and fixed in Annam (Vietnam) and Korea as well as Japan, so they are more precisely called "Annam kanji sounds" and "Korean kanji sounds," as opposed to "Japanese kanji sounds." The period when they were borrowed into Japan and the differences in dialects within Chinese are reflected in the Go-on, Kan-on, and Tang-on sounds. Kanji sounds, including those in Annam and Korea, are valuable resources for understanding not only the phonological history of Chinese, but also the phonological history of each language.
