The eldest daughter of Agrippina the Elder. She married Ahenobarbus, grandson of Antony, and gave birth to Nero. She was temporarily exiled during the reign of her brother Emperor Caligula, but when he was killed and her uncle Claudius ascended to the throne, she married him and wielded power, and in 54 it is said she poisoned her husband to put Nero on the throne. She continued to try to wield power, which led to conflict with her son, and in 59 she was assassinated near Naples by a freed slave who had been ordered by Nero. [Shima Sohei]
