Cimbri

Japanese: Cimbri
Cimbri

...The origin of the name Germanic is unknown, but the word first appears in literature in 80 BCE, in a record written by the Greek historian Poseidonius, describing the invasion of Gaul by the small Germanic tribes Cimbri and Teutonicus at the end of the 2nd century BCE. However, there are some records of the Greek navigator Pytheas, who lived in Massilia (Marseilles), at the end of the 4th century BCE, when he traveled to Norway and the Jutland Peninsula, but the term Germanic was not yet used to refer to the people who lived there.

From the Teutons

...In the narrow sense, it refers to the Teutones, a tribe of ancient Germanic people. They lived on the Jutland Peninsula, but because of land devastation caused by erosion and high waves, they began to move south with the neighboring Cimbri. By around 110 BC, they had reached the Rhine and invaded Gaul, along with some of the Helvetii (a Celtic tribe living in central Switzerland). In 105 BC, they annihilated the Roman army at the Battle of Arausio, shocking Rome, but the Cimbri then took off and headed for Spain.
