A mountain located in the center of the Akaishi Mountains, on the border between Nagano and Shizuoka prefectures. It is one of the nine high mountains in the mountain range that are over 3,000 meters high. It is 3,047 meters above sea level. It is located in the Southern Alps National Park. The summit area above the tree line is designated as a special protected area. The Pacific Ocean can be seen from the summit, so it is also known as the "mountain where you can see the tide." It is located halfway between Hontaniyama to the west and Kitaarakawadake to the north, and has an almost east-west ridgeline. Nishimata, one of the sources of the Oi River, drops off to the south, and the Mibu River cuts into the foot of the mountain in a large curve to the north. While Arakawadake to the south has glacial landforms such as cirques and moraines, only snow-cut landforms have been reported on this mountain. The usual hiking trail to Mt. Shiomi is to go from Torikura to Sanpuku Pass, then to Mt. Hontani, Shiomigoya, and Mt. Shiomi. However, the round trip takes 13 hours (not including breaks) and the elevation difference is about 1,300 meters, so it is recommended for experienced hikers.
