1909‐55 American novelist and journalist. Born in Tennessee, he graduated from Harvard University. His most famous work is the non-fiction book Honoring Famous People Now, which is an experiential account of the lives of southern farmers during the depression. It was rejected by magazines, but was published in book form in 1941 with photographs by W. Evans. He wrote two full-length novels, including Death in the Family (1957), which depicts the sudden misfortune that befalls a southern family.
