Wave plate - Hachoban

In an optical system, an optical element that creates a specified phase difference between the polarized components of orthogonal light. Those that shift the phase of the incident light by 1/4 and 1/2 wavelength are called quarter-wave plates and half-wave plates, respectively. Birefringent materials such as calcite are used.
