An evergreen shrub of the Rubiaceae family. It is found in Japan west of Shizuoka Prefecture, China, and Indochina. The leaves are opposite, dark green, elliptical, and have prominent lateral veins. From June to July, it produces white, fragrant flowers measuring 6 to 7 cm in diameter. The lower part of the corolla is tubular, and the upper part is largely divided into six lobes, turning yellow before falling off. It is planted as a garden tree or for cut flowers, and there are also varieties with double flowers, thin leaves, round leaves, and variegated leaves. The fruit is red-yellow and can be used as a food dye. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
