Tamura-shi

A samurai family from the Sengoku period to the end of the Edo period. They are said to be descendants of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, but during the Sengoku period, the Tamura clan used the surname Taira. In the early 16th century, they moved from Moriyama, Tamura County, Mutsu Province (Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture) to Miharu (Miharu Town, Fukushima Prefecture). During the Tensho period (1573-92), the head of the family, Kiyoaki, allied with the Date clan against the alliance of the Satake, Iwaki, and Ashina clans, and after Kiyoaki's death, they came under the protection of Date Masamune, but in 1590 (Tensho 18), Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Oshu Shioki led to the confiscation of their territory. In 1652 (Shoo 1), according to the will of Masamune's wife Yotokuin (daughter of Tamura Kiyoaki), Date Tadamune (Masamune's son), the lord of the Sendai domain, granted 30,000 koku to his third son Muneyoshi, restoring the Tamura clan. The so-called Date Disturbances occurred during Muneyoshi's time as guardian of the Sendai domain. During the time of Muneyoshi's son Takeaki, the domain was transferred to Ichinoseki in Iwai County (Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture) with 30,000 koku, and continued to exist until the end of the Edo period.

戦国期～江戸末期の武家。坂上田村麻呂(さかのうえのたむらまろ)の子孫と伝えるが、戦国期田村氏は平姓を称している。16世紀初めに陸奥(むつ)国田村郡守山(もりやま)（福島県郡山(こおりやま)市）から三春(みはる)（同県三春町）に移った。天正(てんしょう)期（1573～92）の当主清顕(きよあき)は佐竹、岩城(いわき)、蘆名(あしな)各氏の連合に対抗し伊達(だて)氏と結び、清顕死後は伊達政宗(まさむね)の保護下に入ったが、1590年（天正18）豊臣(とよとみ)秀吉の奥羽仕置により所領を没収された。1652年（承応1）政宗夫人陽徳院（田村清顕娘）の意志により、仙台藩主伊達忠宗(ただむね)（政宗子息）は三男宗良(むねよし)に3万石を与えて田村家を再興した。いわゆる伊達騒動は、宗良の仙台藩後見役時のことである。宗良の子建顕(たけあき)の代に磐井(いわい)郡一関(いちのせき)（岩手県一関市）3万石に移り、以後幕末に至った。
