Wakamatsu [town] - Wakamatsu

Japanese: 若松[町] - わかまつ

This former town occupies the islands of Wakamatsu, Hinoshima, and Arifukushima in the Goto Islands, as well as the southwestern part of Nakadori Island, in Minami Matsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture. Wakamatsu, the main settlement, is a fishing port for coastal and offshore fisheries. In recent years, aquaculture of yellowtail and other fish has become popular. There are many hidden Christian settlements. Wakamatsu Seto, between Wakamatsu and Nakadori Islands, is a large drowned valley and a scenic spot in Saikai National Park. In August 2004, it merged with Kamigoto Town, Niiuonome Town, Arikawa Town, and Narao Town in Minami Matsuura District to form Shinkamigoto Town in Minami Matsuura District. 60.21 ^km2 . 4,199 people (2003).

長崎県南松浦郡，五島列島の若松島，日ノ島，有福島および中通(なかどおり)島南西部を占める旧町。主集落の若松は沿岸・沖合漁業の漁港。近年はハマチなどの養殖が盛ん。隠れキリシタン集落が多い。若松・中通両島間の若松瀬戸は大規模な溺れ谷(おぼれだに)で，西海国立公園中の景勝地。2004年８月南松浦郡上五島町，新魚目町，有川町，奈良尾町と合併し，南松浦郡新上五島町となる。60.21km²。4199人（2003）。
