Italian humanist teacher. Born in Verona, he studied notarial arts at the University of Padua and Greek in Constantinople. After returning to Italy, he opened classical language boarding schools in Florence, Venice, and Verona. In 1429, he was invited to serve as a private tutor for the Este family of Ferrara, and from 1436 he was professor of rhetoric at the University of Ferrara until his death. He completed a three-stage humanist education curriculum, which set the course for future European humanist education. [Kodama Yoshihito]

イタリアの人文主義教師。ベローナに生まれ，パドバ大学で公証術を修学の後，コンスタンティノープルでギリシア語を学んだ。帰国後フィレンツェ，ベネチア，ベローナに古典語の寄宿学校を開設。1429年フェラーラのエステ家に家庭教師として招聘され，36年以後没するまでフェラーラ大学修辞学教授。3段階からなる人文主義教育のカリキュラムを完成し，後のヨーロッパ人文主義教育を方向づけた。【児玉善仁】
