1374‐1460 Italian humanist teacher. Born in Verona, he studied notarial arts at the University of Padua and Greek in Constantinople. After returning to Italy, he opened classical language boarding schools in Florence, Venice, and Verona. In 1429, he was invited to serve as a private tutor for the Este family of Ferrara, and from 1436 he was professor of rhetoric at the University of Ferrara until his death. He completed a three-stage humanist education curriculum, which set the course for future European humanist education.
