Albert Lavignac

1846‐1916
French music educator and theorist. After graduating from the Paris Conservatory, he became assistant in the solfège department (1871), professor (1875), and professor of harmony (1891), a position he held until 1915. His work Theory and Practice of Ear Phonation (1882) had a great influence on music education in France. With the help of many collaborators, he published the 11-volume Encyclopedia of Music and Dictionary of the Conservatory (1913-31. After Lavignac's death, Lionel La Laurencie (1861-1933) became the central publisher). Although the dictionary section was never completed, it was a labor of love that covered a wide range of fields in musicology and paid careful attention to non-Western music.

フランスの音楽教育家，音楽理論家。パリ音楽院を卒業後，同校のソルフェージュ科助手(1871)，同教授(1875)，和声法教授(1891)となり，1915年までその任にあった。その著《聴音の理論と実践》(1882)は，フランスの音楽教育に大きな影響を及ぼした。多くの協力者を得て彼が刊行した《音楽百科全書と音楽院辞典》11巻(1913‐31。ラビニャックの没後はラ･ローランシーLionel La Laurencie(1861‐1933)が刊行の中心になった)は，辞典の部分が完結しなかったが，音楽学の諸分野を広くつつみこみ非西欧の音楽にまで目くばりのきいた労作であった。
