Adam Rapacki

Born: December 24, 1909 in Lvov
[Died] October 10, 1970. Warsaw Polish politician. Graduated from Warsaw University of Commerce. Studied in Italy and France. After returning to Poland, he participated in the revolutionary movement and was taken prisoner by German forces from 1939 to 1945. From 1946 to 1948, he was a member of the Polish Socialist Party's executive committee. He was elected to the National Assembly in 1947. He was a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the United Workers' Party from 1948 to 1954 and from 1956 to 1968. During this time, he served as Minister of Shipping from 1947 to 1950, Minister of Higher Education from 1950 to 1956, and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1956 to 1968, and proposed the Rapatki Plan, which aimed to establish a nuclear-free zone in Central Europe.
